WAP

You might be thinking what are WAP Protocols? Well,WAP Protocols are specially designed to lessen the amount of information, which is delivered through wireless network of limited bandwith. To deliver the same information, WAP uses 50% less packets as compared to HTPP/TCP. Those are the advantages of WAP. WAP Protocols are defined in terms of WAP Protocol Stack such as Wireless Datagram Protocol (WDP), Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS), Wireless Transaction Protocol (WTP), Wireless Session Protocol (WSP), and Wireless Application Environment (WAE).

Wireless Datagram Protocol: The WAP transport layer is defined by the WDP. To the upper-layer protocols of the WAP, the WDP offers consistent services and with it these layers can function independently of the underlying layers.

Wireless Transport Layer Security: The WAP security layer is defined by the WTLS. By using encryption and decryption techniques, the WTLS provides unchanged and uncorrupted data integrity.

Wireless Transaction Protocol: The WAP transaction layer is defined by the WTP. WTP is similar to Transmission Control Protocol, which controls that traffic of data and also saves processing and memory costs in WAP handset. By using retransmission and acknowledgments techniques it provides reliability.

Wireless Application Environment: The WAP application layer is defined by the WAE. To efficiently built applications it provides an environment for mobile operators. It also defines a set of formats, images, phone book records and calendar information.

Premium SMS

Companies that offer information services and media downloads have traditionally relied on the internet to deliver their products. But it also makes a lot of sense to provide them through mobile handsets because they are more prevalent and very accessible than computers. Content providers see premium SMS as a fast and easy way to deliver content  and an easy way to bill costumers for their purchases. Premium SMS is the fastest way to get the latest content whenever the consumers want it.

An increasing demand for personalizing mobile handsets, especially among the younger population, is another factor driving premium SMS revenues. Media companies who need to bring their brands to the mass market should seriously consider utilizing premium SMS in their marketing methods.  Premium SMS is affordable, easy to deploy and provides an extremely wide reach. As noted in a recent survey of a top mobile provider in the U.S, 81 percent of women and 75 percent of men personalize their mobile phones. Clearly there is an excellent opportunity for companies to take advantage of premium SMS.

Mobile

The mobile phone (also called a wireless phone or cellular phone) is a short-range, portable electronic device used for mobile voice or data communication over a network of specialized base stations known as cell sites. In addition to the standard voice function of a telephone, current mobile phones may support many additional services, and accessories, such as SMS for text messaging, email, packet switching for access to the Internet, gaming, bluetooth, infrared, camera with video recorder and MMS for sending and receiving photos and video. Most current mobile phones connect to a cellular network of base stations (cell sites), which is in turn interconnected to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) (the exception is satellite phones).
